  1. Interview
Release Notes
Notes: Noel Gallagher interviewed in the Rome hotel where he was staying before his gig at the Atlantico on 13th March 2012. This is my first direct satellite rip. Recorded by me when it was broadcasted (31st March 2012) and transferred on 24th December 2015 via HD capture device. The file plays perfectly in VLC. Please note that the whole interview is dubbed in Italian. The English transcript attached to the interview is provided below. Enjoy and share with fellow Oasis fans but please give credit to the original poster and this forum.

Interview interspersed with EPK footage of Noel recording his first solo album.

Transcript courtesy of frjdoasis:

Life's good, you know. What have I done lately? I've had a baby, I got married, I moved house. I made a record, I won some awards. I met Balotelli. I've done a lot of things, it's all good.

I don't know why I chose this name. I thought that Noel Gallagher alone wasn't glamorous enough, so I just made it a bit longer. It's not that important anyway. It's not a band name. It's still me, you know. I might change it next time. I said to my manager, 'I'm not going to ask you if the album is going to come out. I just want to make this record.'

It was very liberating and it took me back to the time when we were working on Definitely Maybe, when we were still unknown. The new Noel Gallagher audience? What is that? I don't know. We'll find out. It was a great feeling. There were no Internet forums, no website, nobody could contact me and I didn't contact anybody. The only two people who knew I was recording an album were my wife and my manager. In fact, it didn't look like we were recording an album either. We were just recording songs.

When I finish this tour in November, I will be able to have a better idea of the band. I'm just doing it at the moment. All the gigs have been great and the record has been positively received and the main thing is I'm enjoying it, so ... D'you know what? I don't feel any different than when I started with Oasis in 1991. I feel more tired, that's it. I don't feel any more special. But it's nice that people to say things like that, of course. It's good. What does I feel like? I don't know. I don't feel like an icon. I've done a lot of gigs. Like 15,000 or 17,000 just in England. You know, I like small things too. I like all kinds of concerts, everywhere. I don't get bored at all.

When the people get near to me shouting out things, it's quite funny, you know. Not really. Success is good, fame is brilliant. Sometimes I can't go shopping. Now I'm in this beautiful, beautiful city of Roma and I can't go out of the hotel because of the fans outside. That's annoying. I could come back here with my wife maybe when nobody is expecting it, you know what I mean.

Being photographed every 5 minutes when you're in the street is a pain in the arse, but apart from that being famous is great, it's fantastic. I couldn't ask for anything better. However my fans see me, it's their problem. I don't do anything special for them. I sign as many autographs as I can and I let them take photographs, but other than that I'm still me and they're them. Some of them are a pain in the arse and sometimes I'm not in the mood. If they pay to see my show, that will be a nice moment for them. If they stop me in the streets, I may not be in the mood and maybe I'm grumpy. You get some popstars saying 'My fans are the best thing on earth', but they don't really mean it, d'you know what I mean? I don't know what to think of my fans. I haven't met them all, d'you know what I mean? I just see boys with mobile phones, cameras and a pen, even when I was coming here. What can I say? I think they like me being me, at least I hope so.

Fame and success change you a little bit, but never really change your soul. This means you can wear better clothes, you can have better holidays, your wife can drive a bigger car and your boys can go to better schools, but I'd like to think I'm still the same person I was. When I'm not on tour I don't go around with security guards. I still go to the supermarket, I go shopping. I even go and buy nappies for my sons or things like that, it's terrible. It is terrible. I shouldn't be doing it, but I do.

I don't chase the hits, but I often do get them. I don't often know what to do in order to get them, but when I hear one, I know it's one of them. Even when we say OK it's finished, they're not really finished. They're right or wrong. I've never been in the studio ever with no material. I've never arrived in the studio saying 'Oh, I've got this idea.' There's people who say 'We went in the studio and we started playing.' To me it doesn't work that way, that's bullshit. To me you need to write, re-write. And from when you start off with the first chord to when you listen to the song in the end you've got to have an emotional path between you and the song. You can't have 100% inspiration. It doesn't work like that to me.

I can't say I heard a new band that totally convinces me since Kasabian or Arctic Monkeys. There are some bands with some nice songs, like Foster The Peope and Vaccines, but I haven't heard all of them.

The only groups that struck me were Kasabian and Arctic Monkeys, probably Kasabian.

When I met them it felt like being with old friends, even if I had just met them for the first time. They don't come from anywhere near Manchester, but we all became really close friends. Obviously I like their music, but especially I like them as people.

Nobody will ever be as big as Oasis in England, 'cause it's not possible anymore. But if there's an equivalent to Oasis today, it's Kasabian, but not in terms of size. Oasis got bigger than anybody could ever imagine. For me when I go and see Kasabian I see our same spirit, that thing we had and they've got it.

We first came to Italy and people loved us. I don't know. There's something in this country, something I feel but I can't explain. I don't know what it is. There's just something beautiful about the people and the place which is unique. It's like when you get asked why you love your woman. You don't know, you just love her.

I come here on holiday on the Amalfi Coast, in Ravello. I spent my honeymoon there.

A typical day-off when I'm not on tour? In my house in London? I get up with the kids, have breakfast and then they go to school. And then I sit and read the newspaper. Maybe watch the TV until ... no, I don't go to the pub. My wife is very busy, she's out all the time. I just sit round the house. I tend to do very normal things. In my spare time I usually try to write songs. My only interests are really music, football and my family. I'm not interested in anything else. Sad, really.

The emotional delivery of the song is going to come out when you finally get to the microphone and say 'I know what this song is about. I don't need to explain it to myself. I know where it's going and I know what I'm trying to say'. Instead of singing and trying to get across whatever is written on a paper. That way it wouldn't have any meaning. That way communication could never happen.

Somebody said to me 'You made a song that is called If I Had A Gun.' And I said 'It's impossible, how do you know it?'. 'I listened to it on the Internet.' 'What?'. And they told me they had been on YouTube and bla bla bla. And here I am during some soundcheck, singing the first verse, then a bit of the chorus and then la la la. There were some wrong chords too.

I shouldn't be surprised that some kids record songs with their phones and then somebody tries to complete them. Or that someone uploads them to YouTube like Everybody's On The Run.

When I saw them I didn't think 'How do they dare?'. I hadn't changed them that much. I had nailed them from the start.

The fact that people started trying to finish your songs, change chords is quite flattering in a way. I don't think there are too many songs which were covered before they were finished.

Well the Internet is a great thing, but when I bought my first computer, I switched it on and went on the Internet I said 'Is that it?'. I was expecting my mind to be blown. It wasn't anything special. All you do is shop. Buy clothes, music, furniture, food, read lies and watch videos. That's it. Yeah, I download music all the time and I like iPod and iPad, but people is too obsessed with it. I don't send too many emails nor I receive too many. I don't really use it. I use it to buy music and get informed and that's it.

I've got no control over the music I make. I'm not depth enough to go in the studio and say 'I want to make a jazz album.' All I can do and sit with my guitar and wait. And that's what I do, hoping that something happens. Sit by the river with my guitar and fish. If I fish something it's fantastic. I'm not a genius. I can't read music. I'm not a brilliant guitarist, I'm not a great singer. I'm not great at anything. I'm great at being me and doing what I do and that's it, you know.

If I got your question, you would like to know if Oasis will get back together. I don't know. The difference between me and other people is that I don't imagine my future career. I make a record, I go on tour, I spend some time with my family and I decide what to do. I never made plans when I was in Oasis and I won't start making plans now. I don't know what I'm gonna do. And I don't think about it. I don't chase ... I don't worry if I'll make another album. I've already made important records.

If I don't ever write another record or another song, it doesn't matter. I've written a lot of songs. I probably will but I don't know when.

As for Oasis, I don't see it. I close my eyes and I don't see it.
