This is a genuine 1st generation vhs transfer. A lot of traders have the 2nd generation transfer which traders have wrongly labelled. This version has been unsurfaced very recently and not many traders have, I got this from the guy that bought the VHS and also transferred it onto DVD. Please leave this info file in when sharing this dvd on other sites and blogs, Enjoy.
Comments:
Noel opens the show by asking the crowd "How y'all doing?"
The gig features a rare encore (by which time Liam has changed into a white shirt):
Liam: "Considering this is the last gig in America we'll do another one for ya..."
Noel: "What do you want to hear? Rock n Roll Star?"
Liam: "Rock n Roll Star, yes!"
New York City and Wetlands '94 (DAT) are the same excellent DAT recording, taken from the soundboard feed. This is the whole show except for the intro to Rock n Roll Star and 50 seconds between I Am The Walrus and Rock 'n' Roll Star which had to be cut to fit the gig onto a CD-R back in the day.
New York City from Flashbulb Records in Japan was released in 2000 and is a direct clone of the original New York City release on Vulgartone. The inlay incorrectly lists the gig as October 24, 1994 and the disc itself is printed up as "Big Apple".
In 2014 a trippy version of the "Slide Away" video was released on the official "Definitely Maybe" DVD, although it was (wrongly) attributed by the record company as being from the New Music Seminar gig on July 21, 1994. A high-gen bootleg seems to have been used as the source, so lots of creative effects have been applied to hide the poor quality source.
In 2019 a "Thieving Magpie" Remaster was released online combining the soundboard feed with the audio from a VHS transfer. This was updated in 2023 with a new version of the audio matrix and a synch with one of the better video sources.
There are a few different video sources in circulation that have been transferred from Promo VHS tapes, some higher gen than others. One that claims to be 1st gen runs for 1:15:08 and starts with "PLAY" captions (and "VIDEO CALIBRATION" flashes on screen around 04:00) but the biggest issue is the audio is only on the left channel.
The "joakim" source is superior - it runs for a couple more minutes (1:17:25), has better sound and seems to be from a lower generation VHS source.
