Release Notes
The 2002 tour with the album "HEATHEN CHEMISTRY" had a huge presence in the form of a radio broadcast of Finsbury Park in July, and several other performances were also broadcast, so there were very few items with audience recordings (excluding the Japanese performances). Although the tour started at the end of June before the album was released, a radio broadcast of Belfast was realized at this time. That said, the content was far from a complete recording, and there was also the problem that the sound quality was rather bland compared to Finsbury Park, although it was a sound board, perhaps due to the limitations of the webcast technology at the time. It is a pity that the good audience recordings from the same period missed the timing of release in 2002 because it was a time when the sound board environment was blessed. In fact, some performances had both good sound quality and performance content. To prove this, the Berlin performance on June 24th will be released this time. Following the highly popular "NAGOYA 1994 DAT MASTER" and "FUJI ROCK 2001: DAT MASTER," the sound source provided by Kinney captured their first overseas performance. Kinney has recording connections there, so it's not surprising in itself, but the quality of this audience recording is truly amazing.

The sound image does not reach the level of being described as "like a sound board," but it's not that there is a sense of distance. In particular, the recording balance centered on Liam's voice is exquisite and the ideal audience recording. In addition, when it comes to Oasis concerts, the chorus that occurs from the audience seats rises up from the left and right, but it does not drown out the performance or singing. The exquisite balance of Oasis being the main character of the sound image is the charm of this sound source. Rather, it is the comfortableness of this unobtrusive realism.

The secret is probably in the venue on this day. The Columbia Halle in Berlin, where the tour took place, is a theater with a capacity of 3,500 people, and of course it was a unique venue for the "HEATHEN CHEMISTRY" tour. Large festival-level venues like Finsbury Park are commonplace, and even small arenas are a strong image of the tour, but in fact, at the beginning of the tour, they played gigs at theater-class venues as warm-ups, and the Columbia Halle was also a part of that (and the first large venue was Belfast). The unique listening experience that I have mentioned so far is a reflection of the small venue of 3,500 people. In other words, the appeal of this recording is that you can enjoy the intimate realism that only a small venue can provide, even though it is a "HEATHEN CHEMISTRY" tour, and if Kinney had captured such a precious gig, it was only natural that it would be released as a limited press CD.

The intimate gig was also excellent. First of all, it should be noted that this series of warm-up gigs was the longest set list of the "HEATHEN CHEMISTRY" tour. In other words, they tried out all the songs that were candidates for the start of the tour. Among them, the one that disappeared only during the warm-up phase was "Gas Panic!", a remnant from the previous tour. At this point, it seems that the fact that this song was performed in 2002 is overlooked. The live version of this song, like "FUJI ROCK 2001: DAT MASTER", had Alan White's drums as a cue to speed up the tempo in the second half of the performance, and then it moved into a jam.

However, the short-lived 2002 version, like the "STANDING ON THE SHOULDER OF GIANTS" album version, kept the tempo the same, but evolved into a more solid performance. Alan's drums in particular were so solid that they even had a Bonzo feel to them, and it was a shame to leave it out of the set.

More than anything, Liam Gallagher's voice was in top form, as it was just after the start of the tour. You can clearly feel the passion of the band as they literally warm up to be in top condition before the upcoming Finsbury Park performance. As if to prove this, he sang the entire concert perfectly. It was very reassuring to see him finish the finale, "My Generation," with ease.

On the other hand, since the setlist for the "HEATHEN CHEMISTRY" tour had only just been introduced, Liam misunderstood the composition, which he had not yet fully memorized, and when "Morning Glory" started even though he said it was a "new song," it was interesting to see the audience singing along but still confused. This was also an incident that could only be expected from a warm-up before the tour.

Not only is this rich realism a given, but the band, including Liam, are full of energy, and even the short-lived repertoire "Gas Panic!" make this a rare early gig that will undoubtedly be a highlight for fans who were familiar with Finsbury Park and their Japan tour in 2002. Anyway, the performance full of momentum was really wonderful, and above all, the mild sound quality combined with the tight acoustics unique to a small venue is really attractive. The first-stage audience album of the tour, which had never been released before, is released on Kinney Master!

Great show in Berlin. The crowd does a good job singing "Don't Look Back In Anger". This was Oasis' second visit to Germany in 2002.

All of the Audience releases above are from the same "Roland" source, including Wardour's Berlin 2002 DAT Master although this is described by them as a "Kinney / Kinnie" master. (Apparently "Kinnie" was a Japanese bootleg label in the 1980s... Maybe Wardour use the phrase "Kinnie" as shorthand to refer to live bootlegs in general, rather than a person?)
