"Taken from oasisinet.com (Wayback Machine): I'm a student journalist from London and travelled up to Hull to see the band on July 3rd. They were awesome and here is my review.
POSITIVE REACTION AS HEATHENS DESCEND ON HULL
Hull. Famous for a university, a shopping centre and a bridge. Hardly a British tourist trap, but on Wednesday 3rd September the young and old united, travelled from all over the country to see the city's latest attraction - Oasis. Two days before three important Finsbury Park gigs, the band were hardly wrapped in cotton wool. Quite the opposite as they metaphorically blew the roof off and literally blew the minds of 3'500 fans in Hull Arena. Supported by The Soundtrack Of Our Lives, a fitting title, Oasis had a hard act to follow. The test was passed immeasurably. Liam was sober and the rest of the band clearly meant business. Entering, as usual to Fuckin' in the Bushes, the 200mph chaotic instrumental from their previous studio album, they launched into the Gary Glitter sampled 'Hello', before playing eagerly awaited tracks from the new album. Seams between albums were hard to spot as the new material was received as rapturously as anything else. This was Oasis back to their 'stage conquering' best with a 20 song setlist that included tracks from every album including the b-sides compilation. The offerings from the new album included both singles, as well as 'Force Of Nature' and 'Little by Little', confirmed as the next single, Liam's 'Born On A Different Cloud' and 'Better Man', and the Gem Archer written ' Hung In A Bad Place'. Morning Glory, Columbia and She's Electric made rocking returns to the stage show, the fans in full voice proving that older numbers had not, and never will be, forgotten. The bravely included D'You Know What I Mean, was not its usual uplifting self, with Liam, clad in light blue sports top, jeans and rock star shades, afterwards arguing with Noel over the song's speed, claiming it is 'too fast.' The climax of the show did not dig up past glories, instead pitting Noel's Force of Nature, backed up by a drum machine, against Liam's Lennon-like Born on a Different Cloud, with Liam's new, enthusiastic songwriting almost coming out on top. Noel, however, regained centre stage by introducing the band's second ever number one. ' You think I'm gonna leave this place without you cunts singing Don't Look Back In Anger' - Huge applause. The show finished with a cover version of the Who's 'My Generation', in which Liam's voice pitched perfectly, White's drumming conducted the pace, and Andy Bell, very nearly nailed the bass solo.
Prepared for Finsbury Park? Think again! Nothing can prepare for this.
