Notes; This was the third show in my four gig Oasis mini tour in 2003.
I hadn't clue has to get to the arena so followed anyone in an Oasis shirt until I got to the venue.
I then somehow managed to haggle with a tout despite not speaking German got a ticket for far less than face value.
This gig was particuarly notable as I stood in the centre of the front pit againist diving barrier.
Not only did I have an amazing view but also struck a deal with the guy selling beer from a tank on his back that he would bring me a beer when I signalled and not speak!
Good times!
Release Notes
Oasis The album “HEATHEN CHEMISTRY” tour was a time when you could feel the momentum in the activities of the 2000s. Compared to the live activities they had done before, the time spent on the tour was very long, almost a year. Thanks to this, various live performances have been released regardless of the present, and in the past year alone, overseas performances such as “BERLIN 2002 DAT MASTER” and “COMPLETE WITNNESS FESTIVAL 2002”, “YOYOGI 2002 1ST NIGHT: DAT MASTER” Japanese performances such as “YOYOGI 2002 FINAL NIGHT” have appeared on a limited press CD.
That said, this situation applies to the 2002 leg … more specifically, until the performance in Japan. Especially in Japan, it was really exciting until autumn came to Japan, and the sound source for coming to Japan continued to be released with pompoms in the rear tie. However, as soon as that was over, it seems that interest in the “HEATHEN CHEMISTRY” tour has diminished not only in Japan but also around the world.
The tour itself will end until the end of the year, followed by a short-term European leg in March of the following year. The number of items is small at this time, and on the contrary, there are no press CD items until now.
One of these factors is that Liam’s voice is quite tired due to the live activities he spent in 2002, and it seems as if he had done everything in Japan. In fact, his voice isn’t in good shape when he listens to the existing end-of-year sound sources. Even if it is subtracted, the number of items at this time is extremely small, or almost 20 years after the tour, most enthusiasts have never heard the sound source or performance of the latter half of the “HEATHEN CHEMISTRY” tour. Is it not?
The Dusseldorf performance on March 9, 2003 will be released to overcome such a situation. The sound quality of the audience recording on this day was very good, and the quality of the press CD was suitable without complaint. Very clear recording condition with close sound image. However, in the rear tie, the sound source did not spread, so items were not created, and even after the sound source appeared, there were problems. It is said that when this sound source was released on the Internet in the latter half of the 2000s, the DAT tape deteriorated over time and digital noise was mixed in several places.
This was especially noticeable in the two songs from the start of the live, which was the reason why even the CD-R couldn’t produce a sound source with excellent sound quality. Fortunately, in 2021, we have benefited from the evolution of technology, and it is now possible to remove all of those noises at the time of release. If you’re a maniac who has heard the original sound source, you’ll definitely be surprised at this cleanup.
The thorough work is not limited to removing noise. For example, it responded to the change in recording volume that occurred in “Better Man”, and refined it to a stable state that can no longer be compared with the original recording.
And it is no exaggeration to say that the content is a series of things to listen to. The set list was added to the start of the 2003 short-term leg, which was the last task of the “HEATHEN CHEMISTRY” tour. After all, the opening is a surprising “Bring It On Down”. Alan White hit the song only on this short tour, and the rhythm of the Alan clause, which is completely different from the straight of the original Tony McCarroll, is fresh. In addition, many people may hear the Alan version of this song for the first time in this release.
However, when the song starts, Liam’s voice is not sharp. It’s almost as if the infamous “Nyanchu Voice” was born in 2005. Noel revealed his condition here before the live performance of “Little By Little”, but it seems that Liam had a cold. That wasn’t the case during the two days in Dublin, which was one of the few performances where items were released on the 2003 tour, and I think I caught a cold while traveling to Germany. The first delivery of this title comes with “Hamburg 2003”, which contains the previous day’s performance in Hamburg, but Liam there is not in good shape.
Fortunately, Liam in Düsseldorf quickly demodulated. Also, unlike 2005, his throat age was two years younger. Thanks to that, “Supersonic”, which was not played in the previous year, was sung smoothly, and “Champagne Supernova”, which was revived as a closing repertoire before the encore on this short-term tour, is also the same.
More than that, the biggest thing to hear on the 2003 short-term leg is “Songbird,” which is a rare rear-tie live performance. Since 2005, it has become a regular repertoire until the dissolution of Oasis, but the live performance on the “HEATHEN CHEMISTRY” tour was only eight times in 2003. Nowadays, many people may not even know that it was shown in the rear tie.
Compared to the version that has become established as a repertoire since 2005, the performance is simple with the atmosphere of the original song, there is no Noel’s harmony like the later live, and the author Liam counts himself. It is interesting that the performance starts.
Also, the pattern that Noel plays the riff of the Beatles “Day Tripper” at the break of “Cigarettes & Alcohol” has been handed down among maniacs as a rare arrangement only at this time, but the development that forcibly returns to the song from that riff Is really interesting. I think it’s a feat that the precious arrangements that I heard in a very short period of time from the end of 2002 were included in the press CD for the first time.
Even a funny happening such as “Force Of Nature” where Noel missed the timing of counting and the intro became long is captured. Until now, the 2003 short-term leg, which had only items in Dublin at the beginning of the tour, will be the first release sound source and the first limited press CD release. Above all, the same “HEATHEN CHEMISTRY” tour should show a fresh composition and performance different from 2002!

fan memories
"I was there, and it was f**king great! I was standing right in front of Gem and had a clear view of Liam. After Ciggs&Alcohol Liam was standing right in front of us, that was one of the best things I remember. And when Stop Crying Your Heart Out, Little by Little, Don't Look Back in Anger were being played the roof almost blow up. Defenitely not the last time I'll see them. See you later.
