Noel reveals that "Lyla" was written during the first night of recording sessions for Heathen Chemistry and was originally titled "Sing", but was shelved after Travis released a single with the same name:
Noel Gallagher spoke to Scotland Today's Billy Sloan when the band played a sold-out show at Edinburgh's Usher Hall the day before the release of their new single Lyla .

The new Oasis Album, Don't Believe the Truth , has been a long time in coming, is he pleased with how it has turned out?

He said: "Yeah, I'm made up absolutely. I just think its, the people who have bought all our records, when they hear it, it has an undefinable quality, I think. Liam is writing more, I'm singing more, there's sax, there's a different feel on the drums, Gem and Andy are contributing more ideas to songs and more ideas to parts and everybody is kinda swapping instruments, there is lots of kinda little things that are going to make it more interesting."

"It was actually a joy to write this record 'cos as each month went past another song was delivered by somebody and it was kinda taken somewhere else. I never ever, ever got frustrated and it was kinda sad to deliver it in the end. I could have got another six months out of it. I was kinda hoping we would scrap it when we went to LA and go off to Barbados or something because it was such fun to record 'cos the songs were so good. "

Billy remarked that the new single Lyla seems like a cross between the Rolling Stones and The Who, and he asked what influenced the song and where did the inspiration for the song come from ?

Noel Gallagher replied: "That song started off its life about four years ago during the first night of the sessions for Heathen Chemistry, and it had a different drum beat and it was called Sing and then Travis had a song out about six weeks after we started called Sing so we binned it off."

"The name Lyla was just a name that fitted, we struggled with a few names but Lyla seemed to be the one that fitted, everybody got it. "

There does not seem to have been a Liam and Noel bust up for a long time. Does that mean they are getting along better than ever before, or does it just mean they are giving each other a bit of a wider berth?

Noel said: "I'm amazed that people perceive our supposed relationship, it's just... We haven't had a fallout for ages because there's been nothing to fall out about because he's been on his best behaviour, or is it because I'm more tolerant, I don't know, I don't know."

Oasis are going to be playing their biggest ever Scottish show this summer live at Hampden Park in Glasgow on June 29. Asked if the band were looking forward to it, Noel said: "Yeah, I can't wait. Really, really can't wait. As you know, all the gigs in Scotland are special anyway but Hampden Park, you know... it's the cathedral isn't it!"
