*A DVD (pressed disc) is included, but it is the same as the previous version. There are still plenty left, but once they're gone, it will be replaced with a 2-CD version.
Oasis' 2008-2009 tour in support of their album "DIG OUT YOUR SOUL," which began in Seattle on August 26, 2008, brought a lot of buzz when Noel was attacked onstage (at the V Festival in Toronto on September 7) on the first leg of the North American tour. When they resumed the tour after returning to Europe in October, the number of songs they played increased, and they entered a more serious phase. The Electric Proms, a BBC-sponsored festival that began in 2006, took place during this tour, and Oasis headlined the 2008 edition. This Electric Proms performance, and many others, were broadcast in full length from the beginning of the tour, a rare occurrence for the band, allowing us to enjoy various performances on soundboard recordings, but this Electric Proms performance is arguably the best of them all.
The major difference from their usual live shows is the prominent feature of the 50-piece The Crouch End Festival Chorus. The entire live performance was a masterpiece that fully demonstrated Oasis's potential to shine when it mattered most, but let's focus on the unique aspects of this live performance and the even more important points.
The Crouch End Festival Chorus joined on six tracks: "The Masterplan," "I'm Outta Time," "Wonderwall," "Don't Look Back In Anger," "Champagne Supernova," and "I Am The Walrus." Their power explodes as soon as "The Masterplan," and the powerful feat of recreating the string parts with human voices is truly impressive. A major highlight of this tour is the flow of "Don't Look Back In Anger" and "Falling Down," performed in a semi-acoustic arrangement in a lowered key—a first for an Oasis tour—and the exquisitely arranged gospel-style chorus builds momentum as the show progresses, creating a fresh and moving "Oasis + audience + chorus" combination that is one of the highlights of the tour.
The outro to "I Am The Walrus" even features Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" from Symphony No. 9. The jam that followed featured the famous descending passage from The Beatles' "Helter Skelter," a highlight of the performance. It's easy to understand why fans are already calling this a historic performance. While the format may be different, like their 1996 "MTV Unplugged" performance, it also has strong elements of a one-off show that will be enjoyed for years to come. This is the kind of wonderful live performance it is.
The bonus tracks begin with audio from the album's TV commercials, followed by an interview with Liam on a North American radio show and an acoustic version of "I'm Outta Time" featuring Gem and Andy. It also includes a Primal Scream remix of "The Shock Of The Lightning," which has never been released on vinyl.
The Electric Proms material is sourced from a different source than on the previous album, resulting in a clearer, more refined sound. The opening section has been edited using video sources to provide a more complete sound. Listen carefully to the dynamic drumming of Chris Sharrock, who joined Oasis on this tour, bringing Oasis' live performances back to a level where they can be enjoyed just by listening to the sound alone.
By the way, the Roundhouse was built in 1847 as a train hangar and later used as a gin warehouse. It was renovated in 1966 and has since been used as a venue for rock music and theater. Although this will be the first time Oasis will perform there, the venue has a connection to their beloved Beatles, and it immediately comes to mind that Paul McCartney also performed there at the BBC Electric Proms in 2007. The venue was chosen for the Beatles' first live performance in December 1968 and January 1969, and is also famous as the venue for the "Carnival of Light" event in January 1967, where Paul McCartney led the band to record avant-garde music with all the Beatles. The title of this album, "Carnival of Lightning," is named after that event. This is a beautiful picture disc pressing perfect for permanent preservation.

The primary source for this DVD is the BBC2 broadcast (logo free/higher quality) with the songs that were omitted cut in from the BBCi version. I used the BBC2 rather than the HD version as HD has to be downgraded for DVD and the HD footage has an intrusive onscreen logo throughout. No 'blue button' on BBci footage. Fully chaptered, menus etc.
Lineage etc: Captured both broadcasts at 5800/6600(max)/AC3 @ 384 to HDD (Panasonic DMR-EX768) to ensure parity from outset.
Panasonic -> PCHD -> Womble MPEG Wizard (non-destructive editing),demux audio as wav (balance/crossfade sources in Cool Edit), reencode to AC3 @ 320, remux (corrected 2-frame sync issue in original broadcasts) -> TMPGEnc DVD Author.
